What is International Mathematics Olympiad?
The International Mathematics Olympiad is a competitive exam conducted every year for students in high school. It is the World Championship of Mathematics competition conducted for students in high school and conducted every year across different countries of the world. IMO was first conducted in the year 1959 in Romania, with approximately 7 countries participating in the exam. Later the exam is expanded to over 100 countries from 5 continents.

Eligibility Criteria of IMO for Indian Participants
Being an international exam IMO has its own eligibility criteria that are mentioned below and the students who fits in these criteria are eligible to appear for the exam:
- Age: The students who want to appear for the Olympiad exam should bear between 1 August 2003 and 1 January 2010. Should studying in class 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th are eligible to appear in the IOQM.
- Students satisfying criteria 1 above and studying in Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) and Jawahar Navodya Vidyalaya (JNV) are eligible to appear in the international mathematics Olympiad exams.
- The student who is awarded with the INMO 2022 is eligible to appear in INMO 2023 without qualifying through IOQM provided they fulfill the criteria of IMO 2023 and EGMO 2024.
- The student who wants to appear in the International Mathematic Olympiad must be eligible to hold an Indian passport. Provisionally the students with OCI cards are eligible to appear in the IOQM following the condition mentioned below:
As per the orders from the Madras High Court, students with OCI status will not be eligible for the selection to the Indian team for the International Mathematical Olympiad. However, students having OCI cards are provisionally eligible for the selection at all the prior stages, up to and including the IMOTC provided with all other criteria. The students are also provisionally eligible to write the selection test at the IMOTC.
- The student should be studying and living in India since 30th October 2020 or earlier if willing to appear in the exam.
- Another criteria is the student must be familiar with the Indian education system and studying in the system since 30th October 2020 or earlier.
- The student must not complete the 12 board exams earlier than 30th October 2022.
- The student should not commence or plan to commence studies at a university or equivalent institute by 1st June 2023.
It is necessary that students before applying for the exam should check all the eligibility criteria and make sure that they will fulfill every single thing. In case it is found at any stage that the student doesn’t meet any of the above eligibility criteria then he or she may be disqualified from the program.
